Email Invites vs Invite Links: Which to Use

When to send a personal email invite vs sharing your Sanctuary's invite link.

ARA has two ways to bring people in. They're equivalent in security; they differ in vibe.

Invite link (fast, scalable)

Settings > Sanctuary > copy the link. Anyone with the link can join. Best for:

  • Posting on a community Telegram or WhatsApp group
  • Including in a newsletter
  • Conference flyers or QR codes
  • Onboarding multiple people at once

The link doesn't expose member data. People who follow it have to create an account first; they don't gain access just by clicking.

Email invite (warm, targeted)

For now, the most personal way to invite someone is to send them the link directly with a few sentences of context. (A dedicated email-invite flow with pre-filled name and role is on the roadmap.)

Best for:

  • Bringing in a specific person you've been talking to
  • Inviting elders or stewards from another community
  • When you want the new member to feel personally called in

Either way

New members start as "Villagers" with full read access to your Sanctuary's content (per the Sanctuary's permission model) and limited write access until you grant a role. Promote them to Architect or Caretaker when ready.
